German Cycling Gets Tough

German FlagThe concern over cyclists doping has been creating a stir throughout the cycling world. The German Cycling Federation is the latest to reform their rules to make them even more strict.

As of next year all professional German cyclists will be subjected to more testing and will have their own blood profile updated throughout the season.

“This system is unique and strict. Whoever ignores the rules will not compete for an international title in German colours,” said BDR president Rudolf Scharping.

“The credibility of cycling hinges on our ability to carry out these measures.”

I think it’s great that they are working dilligently on cleaning up the sport. A mass doping scandal can ruin the credibility of a race or sport in very short time. With Jan Ullrich, Floyd Landis, and the Spain scandal, cycling needs to figure something out in regards to doping soon!
