Australia’s National Ride to Work Day

Australia TrafficAn idea that all countries should embrace is the National Ride (cycle) to Work Day.  On October 17th, Australia will be holding their national day of cycling to work for the first time.

Organisers expect over 60,000 people nationally to participate in this year’s event.

This is a great concept, as it increases overall awareness of the great benefits that cycling to work (and everywhere!) has to an individual, and a society.

This will save 330 tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions if each rider normally travelled 10km to work in a car, organisers say.

I’m not sure where they get their statistics from, but either way, even the smallest of changes in social thinking makes a difference in the long run (as anyone reading this site already knows).
