Avoiding the suicide slot

Kent’s Bike Blog has an interesting discussion on an aspect of bike safety. The “suicide slot”, according to Kent, is the blind spot of a vehicle that should be avoided by a cyclist.
So I’m trying to plant the meme of the “Suicide Slot” and get more cyclists avoiding the slot. If a bike lane puts me in the suicide slot at an intersection, then I’d argue that the bike lane is wrong. If I am going straight through an intersection, I will be where the other straight heading vehicles are. In the lane, taking my turn.
Kent also links to additional resources on bike safety that I found a bit useful.
Update: Also, Alex Wetmore has a bit more touching on the suicide slot on his site as well.
