Cateye Strada Cadence Cyclocomputer Review
Cateye is like the old faithful of cycling computers. They are reliable, accurate, and have been around forever. The Cateye Strada Cadence (CC-RD200) continues on with this tradition as it’s an excellent computer for the cycling enthusiast.
This computer can track your…you guessed it…cadence, along with a few other useful monitoring statistics. It also tracks your current speed, maximum speed, average speed, odometer, 2 trip distances, elapsed time, and clock. I’m not really sure if I can even think of any other features that I would need; maybe heart rate monitoring, but that would probably be overkill for me.
The Strada Cadence line looks like it’s replacing the ever reliable Cateye Astrale 8. The most notable difference between the two is that the Strada has a programmable odometer, whereas the Astrale 8 would reset to zero when you replaced batteries, and you’d lose the past readings. The Strada can also be set to two different wheel sizes; this can be convenient if you are switching it between your bikes. Also, the Strada has updated the interface with their new ClickTec system. The current speed will always show at the top of the screen while the rest of the modes can be cycled through by just pushing the bottom of the computer face. I really like the new interface, as it works well, and the numbers are easy to read.
You’ll find the rear wheel mount (wired) is reliable, and not terribly difficult to install (your local LBS can help here too…). The rear mount is helpful if you have a trainer, as you’ll still be able to track your stats; most of the lower end computers mount on the front wheel. The computer is mounted using Cateye’s FlexTight universal mounting bracket.
I highly recommend the majority of Cateye’s products, and the Strada Cadence is one of my favorites. Also, the low price definitely helps in the recommendation, as it can be found for around $30-40 depending on your patience for sales or promotions.
