If Cadel Evans sounds a bit bitter after competing in the Beijing Olympics, it’s likely because he had a lot going against him going into the Olympics. Evans competed in two cycling events with a ruptured ACL, and only lost the medal by 12 seconds over a span of 45 kilometers.
He says he injured himself so seriously in the Tour that he spent several days on crutches in the lead-up to the Games.
“It was the swelling that was the main problem – and then once we got rid of that I could at least start riding.”
That sounds like a pretty tough break to me.
He’s also not a fan of the ‘fresh’ air in Beijing:
“The air’s a bit thick here, I don’t know how much oxygen’s in it,” he said.
More on Evans here and here.
