Yamaha’s new PAS Brace electric bike

Yamaha has announced their newest electric bike, the PAS Brace.  It has a commuter sufficient range of 39km in automatic mode.

The bike has a unique feature (S.P.E.C.8) that detects when the gears change, and what speeds the bike is at, and adjusts amount of help offered via the electric assistance.  The goal of the S.P.E.C.8 is to conserve battery life, and offer the right amount of assistance.

If the bike runs faster than 15km/h, the auxiliary power unit starts to reduce its output, depending on which gear is currently put on. If the bike reaches a speed of 24km/h or faster, electric assistance will be stopped. Owners can choose between 3 modes: automatic, “power” and “auto-eco plus”.

The PAS Brace is available in black, red or white, and is expected to be released in Japan on August 8th for approximately $1,150.
