Bike shop teaches you how to build your own bamboo bike

Bamboo BikeNPR is running a great article about a Brooklyn, NY bike shop that teaches you how to build your own bamboo bike.  Not only do you get the priceless bike building knowledge, but you also get to keep the bike.  In our article from July of this year, we talk about the rise in bamboo bike sales for Calfee bikes in the UK.  The downside is that Calfee bikes will run you nearly $5000.  You can build your own bamboo bike at Bamboo Bike Studio for around $1000, and most of the cost is in the components.

“Everyone who leaves the studio says, ‘Wow, my bike is my favorite object now.’ ” Odlin says. “They have such a connection to this thing that came together under their own hands. They may not come here to have that connection to their bicycle, but that’s what they leave with.”

So, if you live in the Brooklyn area, and are in need of a new bike, be sure to check out Bamboo Bike Studio.  Not only will you come out with a sweet, and unique looking ride, you will also be one of the few people in the world with the knowledge required to build your own bamboo bike.

Hi. I work at Bamboo Bike Studio. Thanks for the nice mention. I’m pleased to say we’ve lowered the cost of the workshop; it’s now $948 to build your own full bike and $632 to build your own frame.
