Trek has teamed up with eSoles to add in custom footbeds to their line of Bontrager cycling shoes.
From the press release issued by Trek and eSoles:
Next week, Bontrager will introduce its highly anticipated cycling shoe with eSoles customizable footbeds. The eSoles eFit(TM) footbed, which will be found in all Bontrager shoes, can be customized by the consumer using the eSoles self-guided 3D TruCapture(R) Kiosk Scanning System that will identify specific customized inserts for an additional charge.

Core77 Magazine recently held a contest with it’s readers to see who could design the best cycling shoes.  Some of the submissions are pretty great, with my favorite being the “Barloworld cycling shoe and crampon”.
The judging was done by Bill Cass.  Cass is the man behind the Nike shoes worn by Mark Cavendish, Lance Armstrong, and a number of other famous cyclists that wear Nike shoes.
There are quite a few interesting submissions on their forums.  I wish I had even a bit of the creativity some of those folks have.

In part one of “You’ve just bought a bike, now what?”, I covered the essential items you’ll need after purchasing your (likely first) bike, including the helmet, spare tubes, patch kit, tools, and pump/CO2. Of course, these items aren’t nearly the only things you’ll need to prepare you for the road.
