2009 Giro d’Italia route announced

The 2009 route of the much anticipated Giro d’Italia has been announced.  The Giro is held May 9th to May 31st over 3395.5 kilometers.  The starting lineup is pretty great this year with “Ivan Basso, Carlos Sastre, Gilberto Simoni, Danilo Di Luca, Marzio Bruseghin, Denis Menchov and others”.

Pictures of Armstrong’s Trek Madone 6.9 Pro

Roadcyclinguk.com was able to get their hands on some up-close pictures of Lance Armstrong’s Trek Madone 6.9 Pro, and focus on some details related to the components.  Lance is now using the SRAM RED groupset.

Yahoo! launches GPS and camera-enabled “Flickr Bikes”

Yahoo! has just launced a few bikes into the wild that automatically take pictures and subsequently publishes them to Flickr accounts.  It’s almost scary to think how much interesting data could be uploaded if more of these bikes were made.
The Flickr bikes have two main components: a waterproof, rotating cameraphone housing mounted to the handlebars, and the solar panels and a control panel for charging the bike behind the seat.

Lance Armstrong to return to professional cycling in 2009

Well, it has been floating around the intertubes for the last couple days as a rumor.  Lance Armstrong has now officially told the press that he is coming out of retirement in 2009.  While Armstrong leaves out the specifics, he does say that he is returning to cycling to “raise awareness of the global cancer burden.”

The League of American Bicyclists has released their rankings of the friendliest states to cycle (interactive map).  The criteria was based on the following: legislation; policies and programs; infrastructure; education and encouragement; evaluation and planning; and enforcement.

Retul Bike Fit System gets a thorough review

Mike McClusky of Wired has gone through a few of the different ways of fitting a new bike.  He has tried and tested the “data driven approach of the Specialized fit, which used my body’s measurements and flexibility as a starting point, to the experience-driven fit I was given by the late, great Clay Mankin at San Francisco’s City Cycle, I’ve seen most of the ways that a rider and machine can be brought together.” The only thing left for Mike to try out was the Retul fitting system.
