Cervélo, along with Zipp, Speedplay, Vittoria, and 3T have created a new professional cycling team, Cervélo TestTeam.
The reason for leaving the top ranked Team CSC is due to the owner of CSC, Riis Cycling, change in priorities towards generating revenue, and profits. This wasn’t aligned very well with the goals of Cervélo.
“Our main reason to work with a team is to develop new products, and how better to accomplish that than by owning the team.”
It will be interesting to see who will step up and take Cervélo’s place on Team …

Bernard Kohl, and Stefan Schumacher are probably looking at the classifieds for a new team for next year.
Team Gerolsteiner lost their sponsor last year and haven’t had any luck finding a new sponsor, so they will be shutting down after this season.
“No sponsor had the courage and the confidence to come in,” team chief Hans-Michael Holczer said Thursday.
This is another case of doping tainting the image of cycling, and causing major sponsors to think twice about having their companies associated with the sport.

Ricardo Ricco’s former team sure hasn’t had much luck with keeping sponsors lately. Scott Bicycles has announced that they will no longer sponsor the Spanish ProTour team, Scott-American Beef, formerly named Saunier Duval.
Saunier Duval dropped their sponsorship of the team in July, after Ricco and teammate Leonardo Piepoli were caught using EPO-CERA during the Tour de France. Scott announced that they would continue to sponsor the Spanish team, but it looks like it wasn’t meant to be.
I suppose they’ll be called the American Beef team now? It sounds a bit …

Ride the City is a relatively new google maps mashup that is set to help NYC cyclists get to their destination in the safest possible way.
It’s a pretty great concept if it works as well as they advertise, as it could mean safer trips for cyclists while also raising awareness for people that hadn’t considered a certain route for commuting, etc.
RTC considers streets with bike lanes to be shorter than they actually are. This is slightly exaggerated on the ‘safe route’ and more exaggerated on the ‘safest route.’ The result …

That’s the number of stolen bicycles that police found in the possession of Toronto resident, Igor Kenk.
Kenk owned a shop called the Bicycle clinic where shoppers would occassionally see their old bicycles, and would have to pay, or argue to get them back.
The only reason Mr. Kenk was arrested was that bicycle thefts rose sharply in June, prompting 14 Division to start a general effort to trap the thieves by planting bicycles on the streets and waiting to see who took them.
The craziest thing is that when the police went …

Cervélo has recalled about 5,800 Wolf SL Carbon Fiber Forks that may have been installed on the R3, R3 SL, Soloist Carbon, Soloist Carbon SL, and certain P3 Carbon framesets and complete bikes.
The reason for the recall is that Cervélo has received 12 reports of the forks cracking or breaking during normal use.
Cervélo will replace the Wolf SL forks with the 3T Fundra Pro or the Easton EC90 SLX.
The recall does not impact the Wolf CL and the Wolf TT forks.
The full recall notice is after the break.

David Byrne, the singer of the Talking Heads and avid biker, has created nine uniquely shaped bike racks for New York City sidewalks.
The temporary bike racks were installed by the Department of Transportation to promote cycling within the city as a viable mode of transportation and raise general awareness.
“It was important to me that these new racks be the same thickness and material as the existing racks—to help identify them as practical bike racks and not just modern art,” Mr. Byrne said. “The locations about as perfect as one could …
